I'm a 22-year-old self-taught artist who paints on sneakers, apparel, cases, and just about anything else. Growing up I always had a passion for DIY's and creating, but I started painting in December 2018. I recently graduated from Ryerson University with a Bachelor's of Commerce. I was focused on pursuing a corporate career when I started university but am not a full-time Artpreneur (Art + Entrepreneur).
Creatdbyi started when I first painted a red camo design on my own pair of Nike Air Force 1's in December 2018. I had no intentions of continuing to do this, it was just a DIY project. My friends liked them and wanted their own pair, encouraging me to make a page where I share my creations. After a few months, I created my Instagram page in 2019 where I could share my work alongside completing my degree and co-op terms. Originally, this was a side hustle. I didn't think of myself as much of an artist either. I worked marketing co-op roles at amazing companies at which I learned a lot, and did actually enjoy it as well. I used to paint every evening after working my 9-5. Once the pandemic hit, I found myself painting more because I wasn't commuting and had more time to myself.
Then I made the decision to grow my artistic ability and pursue this full-time. Painting on sneakers introduced me to other art mediums as well. I also create digital art and customize different items using my cricut machine. I hope to explore other mediums and create original pieces as I grow my abilities. I encourage everyone to chase their dreams as we're young now, and this is the time to take risks.
I love painting on sneakers because it's a way of wearing art. They make a thoughtful gift and it's fulfilling knowing that I was able to be a part of someone's birthday or any other event and create something that added to their happiness. Customized sneakers are a form of expression. I've been able to create different designs that represent my unique customers. This includes painting their favourite anime characters, inspirational figures, showcasing their business, and anything that represents their style. Each shoe is unique to the person requesting it.
