Raised by Chinese-Cambodian survivors of the Khmer Rouge. A civil war and merciless genocide that killed one quarter of the population in Cambodia (1975–1979). Inspired by family stories of escape, rebuilding, collective karma, and resilience in times of survival. What it looks like to rebuild a country and infrastructure after tragedy. With relatives spanning every class, Christine reflects on wealth disparity through the idiom “wealthy ’til you’re blind.”

The first-generation Canadian reconnects with cultural identity. Showcasing characters of resourcefulness, entrepreneurship, and creativity by nature; This Toronto-based photographer returns to the country her parents escaped 40 years ago. Shot on a Fujifilm X-T20 to add vibrant and meditative visuals to the tales of her parents’ upbringing.

Christine Ung is a self-taught photographer, shooting for events at only 16 years old. She has been able to reignite a sense of play into her adulthood. Leaning back into art through photography, painting, and digital collages.
